Maz Kanata, or known as Maz Kanata the Usurper, Kanata the Despoiler, Kanata the Benevolent and Kanata of the Free Fleet, was a force sensitive female who lives in an ancient castle on the planet Takodana. She gained her reputation as a pirate queen and have spent centuries travelling across the galaxy and collecting antiques and trinkets for the own castle vaults. It was there that Rey found a lightsaber that was calling for her.
